Lynn made perhaps the most terrifying decision of all: She leaped from the security of her teaching position after eighteen years, without the safety net of another job or even a clear vision of what came next.
“I was going through the motions,” she confesses. “Eighteen years of teaching had put me on automatic pilot. I had the security, the benefits, the relationships, everything that conventional wisdom says should bring contentment. But inside, insecurity was keeping me from the kind of risk-taking I would have encouraged any one of my students to take.”
Her awakening came when the school asked her to lead special projects in organizational development and strategic planning. “It reignited the passion I’d had in my previous HR experience. I was more excited about the side work than the work I was being paid to do.”
Today, Lynn works as a career and executive coach, helping others navigate exactly the kinds of transitions she once feared.
Wisdom: “When you choose to leave something that no longer serves you, you’re not getting fired, you’re firing a version of your life that’s too small for who you’re becoming. Sometimes you must jump into the unknown to discover you can fly.”
